Motor Vehicle Theft

• In 2008, a total of 12,740 motor vehicle thefts were reported by law enforcement agencies in Colorado. 
• This is a 22.1% decrease in motor vehicle thefts from 2007. 
• Motor vehicle thefts accounted for 28.5% of the major offenses reported.
• There were 761 attempted and 11,979 completed Motor Vehicle Thefts reported.
  • Automobiles accounted for 9,711 or 81.07% of the vehicles stolen.
  • Trucks or buses accounted for 1,048 or 8.75% of the vehicles stolen.
  • Vehicles classified as other vehicle accounted for 1,220 or 10.18% of the vehicles stolen.
